Himig ng Bayan is a venue for musicians and artists to come together and celebrate the best in Filipino music. Scheduled on June 12, 2009 in Dumaguete City, the Himig ng Bayan hopes to promote camaraderie among local artists and give budding talent the opportunity to learn from seasoned personalities in the industry.
Himig ng Bayan celebrates Filipino musical creativity with the following activities, to be held in different venues around Dumaguete City:
The Gibson Les Paul is a solid body electric guitar originally developed in the early 1950s. The Les Paul was originally designed by Ted McCarty and endorsed, named and used by then popular jazz/pop guitarist Les Paul. The Les Paul, in all its many variations, is truly a beautiful guitar. The tones are rich and deep as well as edgy and have been the perfect choice for both jazz and rock musicians everywhere.
With the bevy of talent found all over the Philippines, the Himig ng Bayan itinerary will include a recital, where amateurs from the country will perform for a panel of the industry’s top names.
These include a guitar, piano and vocal solo, showcasing individual talents rather than the more popular band set-up.
Amateur artists can join the eliminations by registering here, which will then allow them to upload MP3 and video files of their pieces. These will be judged by a panel, the winners of which will be announced on the MBC radio stations. Pieces will be judged per province before moving on to the regionals.
Winners of the regional competition will win P10,000 and get to travel to Dumaguete City to compete in the national finals and get the chance to perform in front of an audience of thousands.
